Saint Agatha was, according to Catholic tradition, a young Christian who lived in the third century, martyred during the persecutions under the emperor Decius. She is patron saint of the city of Catania, of the Republic of San Marino, of the island of Malta. Catania dedicates a big celebration to her, on 3, 4 and 5 February, it is one of the most followed Catholic religious festivals, precisely because of the number of people it involves and attracts.
